Study

The discipline of study is an invaluable tool for providing our minds with sustenance. Study and Meditation compliment each other, yet they differ in approach. Christian Meditation fills the mind through various forms of devotion and listening so we can know, obey and experience God and apply His truths in our lives. Study involves analyzing truth for the purpose of mind renewal while emphasizing comprehension and retention of the subject matter. This process is not automatic by some form of hopeful osmosis. We must spend the time to go deep! In order for us to be transformed by truth, we must pursue the knowledge of truth.

Many symptoms of lackluster spiritual or relational life can be solved by studying. Without continual in-depth encounters with fundamental and expository truths, our habitual Christian experiences can take us only so far in our pursuit of spiritual growth. Study is a tool to re-channel our scattered brains so we can hear, understand and accept God's transforming truths. Our minds will be reshaped by the paths of thought offered by the discipline of study.

In addition to the reading of Scripture and other Christian books, study should encompass observation of nature, human relationships, culture, and world events. God has worked and is working in the entirey of creation and human history. The discipline of study will train your mind to perceive the actions of a living and active God.
